Saint Sava (1174-1236) is the patron saint of Serbia. The Saint Sava Orthodox Christian Cathedral in Beograd, dedicated to him, wasn't built in a year. Interrupted frequently throughout the 20th Century by war and atheistic government, it has taken about 100 years to reach its current state of near-completion. The facade is built of white marble and granite.
